Empowering Journeys: Breaking Employment Barriers
“I spent most of my adult life working retail and I really wanted out. Prospect helped me get work experience as a front desk agent at a really great hotel. I would definitely recommend this place to someone looking to change industries if they’re struggling to do so on their own.”

After a brain aneurysm impacted her vision, Elena faced significant uncertainty about her career path. Despite these challenges and regaining only some peripheral vision, she remained committed to finding a role that matched her outgoing personality and desire to interact with people. Through Prospect’s tailored support and career guidance, Elena discovered a Guest Services Worker position at a local security firm. The role perfectly suited her needs, allowing her to provide event attendees with helpful information.
With coaching from Prospect on how to highlight her strengths during interviews, her vibrant personality made a remarkable impression on the hiring team. Elena was offered the job swiftly and is now thriving in her role.
GL’s Journey to Empowerment and Employment
GL, a stay-at-home mom who had not worked for five years, faced challenges with her mental health and was unsure where to find support as she sought to re-enter the workforce. Through her involvement with Prospect, GL expressed a desire to gradually adapt to an external routine, a stepping stone to regaining her professional footing. As her confidence improved with guided support from Prospect, she began to communicate more professionally and actively pursued job opportunities.
In January 2024, GL’s perseverance paid off when she secured a customer service position at a local grocery store. This role offers her the potential to advance to the bakery department—her dream career.
Rekindling Hope: A Tale of Resilience
After being displaced by wildfires, a client and her four children found themselves facing tough circumstances, living in a trailer with limited space in the Strathmore area.
With the support of our team, she frequented our Strathmore office, dedicating her days to job search and skill development. Through our programs, she was able to enroll in an Administration Fundamentals course at a local college and received a loaned laptop to facilitate her studies and job applications.
Her hard work and resilience led to a successful job placement as a receptionist at a local college in Calgary. She shared, "Everything is going great! It’s like living the dream. I couldn’t have done it without you all. I will forever be thankful for all the help you gave me and my family!"
New Programs
Prospect launched two impactful programs this past year, each tailored to support diverse job seekers:
Youth Apprenticeship Connection Program (YACP)
Funded by Children and Family Services and developed in partnership with Advanced Education, YACP empowers youth and young adults aged 16-24 with connection to Children Services to access apprenticeships and build pathways to rewarding careers in trades.
Enhanced Employment Supports for Persons with Disabilities
Funded by Seniors, Community and Social Services, this program boosts employability for individuals with disabilities, focusing on skill development and workplace integration. It enhances employer awareness and involvement, promoting more inclusive employment practices.
